Remove a background without sending your photo to a server
The Background Remover uses the RMBG-1.4 model to estimate the subject of a photo. Processing happens in your browser. The first image selection starts the external runtime and model downloads, so allow time and data for the first run.
How to use the Background Remover
- Select a JPG, PNG, or WEBP up to 15 MB.
- Wait for the model to load and the image to process. The progress display reports downloads when their size is available.
- Use the comparison preview to inspect the cutout. Adjust the background color, blur, or shadow if useful.
- Download PNG or WEBP for transparency, or JPG with an opaque background.
Example: prepare a product photo
Start with a clear photo of one object against a contrasting background. Keep the background set to Transparent, process the photo, and inspect the object's outline in the preview. Download PNG to place the cutout over a new design, or choose a white background and download JPG for a listing that requires it. Check the actual marketplace's image requirements before publishing.
Quality and device limits
Small subjects, transparent objects, hair, and low-contrast edges can produce an imperfect mask. The tool does not reconstruct detail missing from the original photo. Review the exported image as well as the preview.
The model processes a resized representation of the image and applies the result to the original dimensions. File size alone does not describe memory use: a very wide or tall image may fail on a phone even below the 15 MB upload limit. Use the Image Resizer first if necessary.
Privacy, downloads, and troubleshooting
Your photo remains on your device, while runtime and model files are fetched from external hosts. Browser caches can be cleared or evicted, and the page is not guaranteed to work offline. Model size and loading time depend on the files requested, connection, and device; there is no fixed first-load speed promise.
If loading fails, check your connection and select the image again to retry. If processing runs out of memory, resize the input or close other memory-intensive tabs. Keep the tab open until the result is ready.

Does the tool upload my image?
The selected image is processed on your device. After you choose an image, the browser downloads the AI runtime and model from external hosts.
Can I use it offline?
Internet access is needed to load the page, runtime, and model. Browser caching may reduce later downloads, but offline availability is not guaranteed.
Which exports preserve transparency?
PNG and WEBP can preserve a transparent background. JPG is opaque: use a selected background color, a blurred original background, or white when neither is selected.
Why are some edges missing or blurry?
The model estimates the foreground and can miss fine hair, transparent objects, or low-contrast edges. Inspect the preview and use a clearer source if needed.
What file limits apply?
Choose a JPG, PNG, or WEBP no larger than 15 MB. Large image dimensions can still exceed the memory available on your device. Try a smaller image if processing fails.
